Sadly, The Dream Is Over
The Club’s Appeal against the refusal by Mid-Sussex District Council to grant planning permission for a new Clubhouse with utilities, plus improved access, has been turned down by the Inspector. The main reason for his decision was ‘that the proposed development would have a detrimental effect on the use of the adjacent football pitch'.
So the only LTA affiliated tennis club in Worth Parish will have to continue with our ‘not fit for purpose’ hut while we regroup after five years’ hard work assembling a development plan which would have provided the facilities our members deserve and which would have been an asset to Crawley Down Village and Worth Parish.
Luckily we have a forward-thinking committee and a happy, enthusiastic membership which enjoys the great game of tennis and plays it year-round. Our courts are well-maintained and well-used. We compete in the Weald League winter and summer competitions – visiting teams are always interested to see how the other half plays!
On 17th September we held our first sponsored tournament for charity, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care – pictures and details may be reached via our Home Page. Our facilities may be THIRD WORLD, but our Club spirit is FIRST CLASS!
